Just In Time Staffing
Project Gateway contains a powerful feature which we call
Just in Time Staffing. This allows
you to develop your project plans using generic skills, such as programmer, engineer,
writer, etc., rather than specific individuals. You can publish these plans in to the project
repository. Agents built in to the repository will identify assignments for these "skills"
and send email to the designated skill managers before each assignment is scheduled to begin.
By using a list box on the assignment form, the skill manager can assign a specific person
to do a task. This task immediately appears on the to-do list of that individual.
Using this deferred "just in time" method, provides several advantages.
First, it allows the project planning to be done without detailed knowledge of the people who
may ultimately be involved in doing the work many months later.
Second, it allows the final assignment to be made with an understanding of the current
availability and workload of all the individuals within the department.
