General Information

Evaluation Software Full Functioned Evaluation Versions of our applications are available.
Please contact our office or your local distributor to discuss your needs.

Pricing Product pricing varies by region as do the service, training and maintenance packages offered by our distributors. Typical North American department level licenses range from 10 to 30 thousand dollars for Project Gateway. A Project Observatory North American License is priced at $25,000 for 250 projects.

Service Marin Research offers a standard maintenance and support package which provides you with email and telephone support and all product enhancements and upgrades. The annual fee for this service is a percentage of the product license fee with a minimum of annual fee of $250. Sites are required to designate a support coordinator to provide a central point of contact for update distribution and problem resolution.

Modifications and Derivative Works When you our applications, you receive the full design for all of the databases licensed. You may modify these designs as you wish to build the system you need. Making such modifications does not invalidate the warranty on the software or your right to receive support. All of the original software and documentation provided to you is copyrighted. Any modified version must retain the original copyrights and "Help About" pages and is considered to be a derivative work. Such derivative works may only be used under the terms of the effective license agreement. You may not transfer such derivative works to others that have not signed a Marin Research license agreement prior to such transfer. You may not incorporate any element of the copyrighted designs into any other application unless all the users of that application are licensed users of Project Gateway/Observatory.

Project Observatory Specific Information
What size of license do I need? Project Observatory is licensed by project capacity. The basic license covers the first 250 projects. Add-on options are available to extend the license in 100 project increments. You can expand a Project Observatory license at anytime with full credit given for the original purchase price. Note, there is no limit on the number of users allowed to create or access the data shown in an Observatory.

What server hardware and software do I need?
The basic requirement is for a Lotus Domino 5 or later server (NT, Sun, AS/400 etc.) with connectivity to your email environment (the observatory is normally configured as a mail in database). Project Observatory is an agent driven application that may require long agent run times for nightly processing. If you are planning on running larger databases (500+ projects) we suggest you consider a dedicated server.

What client hardware and software do I need?Notes client must be Version 5 or later. Web users should have current releases of Internet Explorer, FireFox, Mozilla or Safari.
To use Observatory Reporter for Microsoft Project, you must have Microsoft Project 98-2003.

Databases, Servers, and ReplicationYou may create as many databases and replicas as you wish on any number of servers at no additional license cost so long as you limit the total number of projects across all of these databases to that which you have licensed.

Connecting other project information sources to the Observatory Project Observatory owners are licensed to use the document type description to connect other data sources into the Observatory System. Marin Research will also license interested third parties to create compatible connectors using this technology. The full definition of the XML Document format is available for download from this site.

Project Gateway Specific Information

What edition of Project Gateway do I need? The Standard Edition is fully web enabled and includes the Repository Center database design and the Notes Client based tools for project publishing and synchronization. The Repository Suite Edition includes all of the standard edition, the four additional database designs (Metrics, Costing, Archive, and Request), and the ProjectWeb publishing & synchronization components (client and server.) All licenses for 250 or more users provide the Repository Suite Edition. It must be purchased separately for smaller licenses.

What size of license do I need? You must license everyone who will have reader access to any of the databases or to the agent generated information created therein. In most cases this would include the project managers, project participants, and department executives. Notes administrators are not considered to be users.

What server hardware and software do I need? A Lotus Domino Server running R5, R6, or R6.5. An Intel Based Windows NT/2000/2003/XP Server is required only when your project managers must use a web client for project publishing and synchronization. Most Project Gateway customers provide Notes clients for their project managers and so this is an uncommon requirement. All other Notes and Web functions, including timesheets, can be  ran on any Domino server.

What client hardware and software do I need? A Notes R5/R6/R7 Client and/or any current Web browser including Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Firefox and Safari.
For your project managers, in order to use the Project Gateway Publishing Tools you must provide a Windows system with a compatible client. Alternatively, Project Managers can use the ProjectWeb publishing tools from a Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP client using a Web browser. (The ProjectWeb software components are provided as part of the Repository Suite Edition and require an Intel Based Windows NT/2000/2003/XP Server.)

Databases, Servers, and Replication You may create as many databases and replicas as you wish on any number of servers at no additional license cost so long as you limit the total number of unique, named users across all of these databases to that which you have licensed.

When do I need to purchase the Enterprise TimePortal?
The Enterprise TimePortal is needed when you have multiple Project Gateway Repositories AND there are people who need to do timesheet reporting on work in more than one Repository.

Compatible Project Scheduling Applications Project Gateway supports Microsoft Project 2000, 2003 and 2003. Project Gateway also supports Microsoft Project 98 and 95, Primavera P3 Version 1.1 and Version 2.0, SureTrak Version 2, ABT Project Workbench Version 3 and 4. Synchronization features vary somewhat by product.
