The Project Gateway Link

The Repository/Observatory Link

The Repository/Observatory Link is an extension to the Project Gateway system.  Working together, the combined system provides an unprecedented level of project and program management support-to-support global enterprises.

Any number of Project Gateway Repositories can feed into a single Observatory. The transfer is made using email. This means that the Repositories do not need to be on the same server, network, or domain as the Observatory. They can be anywhere. One of the benefits is that you can now deploy Project Gateway to individual field worksites and get a complete management picture of all work; both project status and resource requirements, at your corporate office.

Integration is implemented by an automated agent that periodically collects information about each project in a Project Gateway Repository and then transmits the project abstracts to a Project Observatory Database.

Application Scenarios:

Integrate Multiple Repositories! Project Observatory allows any number of Project Gateway Repositories to be consolidated into a single management dashboard that show all projects and departments.

Extend Reporting! Project Observatory can operate as a companion application that supplements the Project Gateway repository with skill management, historical data capture, graphical trend analysis and more details resource demand and capacity picture than that provided by Project Gateway alone. Projects can also be a reported directory to the Observatory that would not be included in the Project Gateway Repository.

Comprehensive Integration

All kinds of projects and planning methods are supported including projects created with Microsoft Project(R), Primavera(R), SureTrak(R), ABT Project Workbench(R) as well as those created using Repository Schedules and manual forms. Note that individual projects can be excluded from observatory reporting by the project manager.

The process collects data from the project profile, from the latest project status report, from the task list, from the project issues, from the project documents, and makes use of the document tracking to tabulate project outputs. If you have a Costing Center database connected to your Repository, the actual project costs and cost targets can be collected from the costing center automatically and passed along to the Observatory.

The summarization and transfer is so completely automated that Repository users do not even have to be aware of the existence of the Observatory. They simply use the Project Gateway system in the normal way. The information that they provide in plans, issues, timesheets, status reports, costs, etc. will find its way to the proper Observatory Reports. The automatic reporting can be done daily or weekly as desired.

The Request Center/Observatory Link

Observatory provides an automated information pathway from any Request Center database to an Observatory. The sum of the pending requests in the Request Center appear as a single project in Observatory. The workload is automatically distributed so that requests always appear as a proposed use of future resources. Each individual request appears is appears as a milestone so that it is possible to link requests in interproject dependencies. Only pending requests are included, those which have been commited for implementation will be reported by the repository.
