WhatIF? Rescheduling in the Repository
Propose, Review, and Implement schedule changes using Repository WhatIf tools.
Sometimes even the best plans need a few adjustments.
The new rescheduling facility allows you to generate new schedules for review.
When you decide to make a change, it updates your project assignments.
Reschedule provides a powerful tool to assist the project leader in adapting to change.
Note that this feature provides an alternative to using an external planning tool such as Microsoft Project.
Rescheduling is initiated from the Project Profile Scheduling panel.
This opens the rescheduling actions form (or notes dialog.). Here you can create a new schedule proposal.
The form lets you make a variety of high level adjustments to the existing plan. For example, you could shift the entire plan several months into the future.
And you can choose how to use or not use task dependencies.
The rescheduling logic supports the use of Buffer assignments, an essential element of Critical Chain Project Management.
The remaining Buffer availability is shown on the proposal Gantt chart.
The result of options selection is a new schedule that can be viewed as a Gantt Chart.
The before and after dates for each task are shown as split Gantt bars.
Note that no changes have been made to the plan at this point.
The proposal is stored in the repository so that you can review it with others.
Once a proposal is available, it can be Implemented, Removed or Revised.
When implemented, you can see the results immediately in the outline view.
If you don't like what has been created you can UNDO the changes.
